How it began. . .

The Emerald Forest how it began, It's first few years the was no plan.
Just many trees of evergreen, from sizes small, some tall, some lean.
About one hundred I did use, but to certain people a bit confused.
Your trees they never seem to grow, their artificial for December's glow.

The trees have lights of emerald green, or a mix of red, & golden sheen.
For about five years it's silent way, til the fall of Ninety Nine, one day.
Say, my friend Doc, your thoughts I ask, what about a train, & overpass.
Made for gardens all year round, like down town windows, no more found.

Year one was just an oval-ed loop, year 2 big changes, here's the scoop.
A tunnel through the basement wall, safe from the rain, and that's not all.
It opened up each child's heart, when through the tunnel it would start.
Then came year three that overpass, with lower level near sidewalk grass.

Now since that time with many changes, for every year it re-arranges.
Or has new buildings added in, come summer sun, and I start again.
Some day I'll leave the thing alone, but for your enjoyment all I've known.
To make it better, & more appealing, so once again new things revealing.

Now ten years have come, and gone, with garden track in my front lawn.
Seven hundred feet nears the amount, a broken yard stick, I've lost count.
So please stop by, see for yourself, trains on new bridges, or a rocky shelf.
Throughout December here I'll be, Candy Canes, Hot Cocoa, offered free.
